Lyrics: Manuel María (poema “Estudio socio-económico-cultural (Propio para teses doutorais)” from the book “Proba documental”, 1968)
Music: Fran Amil
Manuel María, born in Outeiro de Rei (Lugo), was one of the most prolific and most committed poets with our land, since he began his literary career in the early 1950s.
When they made me the proposal to put Manuel María’s poems to music to bring them closer to the youth, I instantly answered yes. Unbeknownst to me, at that moment, the concept of Popsía was being born inside me, which a few years later would develop into a cheo with a self-titled album.
The song “Hai que dicir sempre non” opened a path away from my musical experiences with a large part of the groups with which I collaborated at that time, and in which a seed of a different and own voice was already germinating that would soon take me down paths that would give way to a career in which my voice and my music became my way of expressing myself artistically.
Fran Amil: lead vocals and drums
Jasper: voice collaboration
Paco Cerdeira: electric guitar
Álex Bardanca: bass
Aarón Bouzón: EWI 4000 e keyboards
Remember that you can read the lyrics while you listen to the song.

(…) | (…) |
Hai que dicir sempre non, non | It is always have to say no, no |
e non a tanto tópico que afoga, | and not so much topic that suffocates, |
que nos impide xa o respirar. | that prevents us from breathing. |
Un sinte noxo e dor. E quérese ir. (x2). | One feels disgust and pain. And he wants to go. (x2). |
Un sinte noxo e cavila tristeiro | One feels disgust and ponders saddened |
que só con sentimentos e saudades | that only with feelings and courage |
-por moi metafísicas que sexan- | -no matter how metaphysical they are- |
non se pode chegar a ningún lado. | can’t get anywhere. |
Un sinte noxo e dor. E quérese ir. (x2). | One feels disgust and pain. And he wants to go. (x2). |
Pero… ¿para onde camiñar | But… where to walk |
se están tódolos camiños atrancados | if all the roads are blocked |
e pechadas todas as saídas? | and closed all the exits? |
Hai que dicir sempre non, non | It is always have to say no, no |
e non a tanto tópico que afoga, | and not so much topic that suffocates, |
que nos impide xa o respirar. | that prevents us from breathing. |
Un sinte noxo e dor. E quérese ir. (x2). | One feels disgust and pain. And he wants to go. (x2). |
Pero… ¿para onde camiñar | But… where to walk |
se están tódolos camiños atrancados | if all the roads are blocked |
e pechadas todas as saídas? | and closed all the exits? |
Un sinte noxo e dor. E quérese ir. (x2). | One feels disgust and pain. And he wants to go. (x2). |
Hai que dicir sempre non, non | It is always have to say no, no |
e non | and no |
