Lyrics: Alfonso X O Sabio
Adaptation of the lyrics: Carlos and Fran Amil
Music: Fran and Carlos Amil
Alfonso X El Sabio is projected from the thirteenth century to the present day with a masterpiece such as “Cantigas de Santa María”. These cantigas are one of the most important collections of monophonic song in Western medieval literature. In music, monophony or monody is the simplest texture, consisting of a single melodic line without any musical accompaniment.

- ROSA DAS ROSAS Fran Amil 3:44
Esta é en loor de Santa María | This is in praise of Santa Maria |
como é fermosa e boa | how beautiful and good |
e há gran poder… | and she has great power… |
Rosa das Rosas e Fror das Frores; | Rose of Roses and Flower of Flowers; |
Dona das Donas, Señor das Señores | Owner of the Owners, Lady of the Ladies. |
Rosa de beldade e de parecer; | Rose of beauty and beauty; |
flor de alegría e de prazer. | flower of joy and pleasure. |
Dona moi piadosa é | Very pious owner is |
Ai, ai, ai, loor, ai, ai, ai | Oh, oh, oh, praise, oh, oh, oh |
A tal señor devo moito amar | To such a lady I owe a lot to love |
que de todo mal pode gardar (pode) | that from all evil she can save (can) |
pode os pecados perdoar | can forgive sins |
que fan no mundo malos sabores | what do bad appetites do in the world |
Rosa das Rosas, Fror das Frores; | Rose of Roses and Flower of Flowers; |
Dona das Donas, Señor das Señores | Owner of the Owners, Lady of the Ladies. |
Esta dona que eu teño por señor | This owner that I have as a lady |
é da que quero ser trobador | she is the one I want to be a troubadour for |
se eu non podo haber o seu amor | If I can’t have your love |
dou ao demo os outros amores. | I give the devil the other loves. |
Rosa das Rosas, Fror das Frores; | Rose of Roses and Flower of Flowers; |
Dona das Donas, Señor das Señores | Owner of the Owners, Lady of the Ladies. |
Esta é en loor de Santa María | This is in praise of Santa Maria |
como é fermosa e boa | how beautiful and good |
e há gran poder; | and she has great power… |
Dona moi piadosa é | Very pious owner is |
Rosa das Rosas, Fror das Frores | Rose of Roses and Flower of Flowers; |
Dona das Donas, Señor das Señores | Owner of the Owners, Lady of the Ladies. |
Ai, ai, ai, loor, ai, ai, ai | Oh, oh, oh, praise, oh, oh, oh |
Santa María, Santa María | Santa María, Santa María |
